Thank you for entrusting us with your child at Thirst Youth Cafe
It is a real joy to see them thrive and connect with their peers. Thirst is more than just a place to hang out - it is a safe and welcoming space where young people can build friendships, develop new skills, and feel a strong sense of community.
We had a great time welcoming the town’s year 6’s into Thirst back in July. This was the first year that we invited them to visit during the summer before they start year 7 and it was an overwhelming success, with an increase of 129 young people in July alone compared to July 2024. We are convinced that an early start at Thirst aids the transition from primary to secondary in a really positive way: Connections are made and new friendships formed ahead of the daunting prospect of joining a much larger school. New skills are always learnt at Thirst, including not leaving phones and purses around!
Over the past decade Thirst has seen so many year 7’s grow and flourish - in fact many of our volunteers are older students who help out regularly with a number having carried out their Duke of Edinburgh ‘community service’ with us.
Did you know that not only do we have the cafe - which is a wonderful space in the heart of town, but we also offer well-being sessions and mentoring support in many of the local secondary schools? This is a huge benefit to pupils and we would love to be able to offer more time and mentors in this sadly, very necessary area.
As you know, our goal is to provide a positive and enriching environment for all who walk through our doors. To keep our doors open, activities running, and provide new resources and equipment, we rely on the generosity of our community. We have no government or council funding and with rising costs, and so although the service we provide is free for all children, we are reaching out to see if you might consider supporting this vital work.
We would love to invite you to partner with us in nurturing the next generation. Every contribution, no matter the size, is deeply appreciated and will have a lasting impact on our young people
